Meet our volunteers: Hilary Tunnicliffe

Hilary TunnicliffeHilary started volunteering as an ambassador for Cancer Research UK in 2008.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and having been successfully treated, she wanted to give something back.

“My role involves me talking about what it is like having cancer and cancer treatment to different groups of people and being involved in publicising events for Cancer Research UK.

“I honestly believe that volunteering gave me a real sense of purpose which helped my recovery considerably.

“My highlights have been at Race for Life events, when I have been able to thank thousands of women for taking part on behalf of us survivors. To look out over a sea of pink made up from nearly 8,000 women is incredibly moving and inspiring, and to see the joy on people’s faces as they cross the finishing line at the races and runs is really special.

“Volunteering is more fun if there are a few of you so ask your friends and family too. It gives you a great feeling of achievement to be part of a team that makes things happen.”
