Daniel has been a Race for Life volunteer since 2005. After starting out volunteering at just one event, Daniel is now a key volunteer, helping at all our London Race for Life events.
Daniel feels a close connection to the charity as several friends and family members have been affected by cancer.
“I am on site in the morning with the event manager and help with set up.
"Once the event is underway my role is backmarker, which means that I follow the last lady / group around the course making sure that there are no problems.
"I encourage them to finish the event but don’t push them to finish if it’s not possible.
“This role can be very emotional as some of the ladies that are at the back have either just finished treatment for cancer or are going through treatment. You have to be able to comfort them and encourage them to finish the course and their challenge.
“I enjoy the spirit of Race for Life as everyone at the event is there for one reason.
“All the staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The charity appreciates its volunteers and the work that we do - the volunteers are seen as an integral part of the event.”
