"It has been a brilliant and fulfilling experience and I thoroughly enjoyed all of my internship."
Why Cancer Research UK?
Chen has always had a keen interest in the charity sector and, as a science graduate, a curiosity in human biology. An internship with Cancer Research UK seemed like the perfect way for her to combine these interests.
Main responsibilities
During her internship, Chen researched and reported on the achievements and impact of one of Cancer Research UK’s leading institutes, the London Research Institute.
She was analysing data and literature, interviewing leading scientists and consulting with the charity’s senior stakeholders.
Developing new skills
"During my internship I gained confidence in communicating to the research community and senior management. I also developed data processing and documenting skills, interview and reporting techniques, as well as gained valuable insights into such a multi-sector organisation,” Chen says.
Highlights of my internship
"I was deeply touched by the effort and passion from the charity’s scientists in the process of fighting cancer. I was also overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and energy of all the volunteers and charity employees at various fundraising events.
"It has been a brilliant and fulfilling experience and I thoroughly enjoyed all of my internship."
