Shine Marketing, PR and Sponsorship Internship

Why we need you

Cancer Research UK’s National Events Internship Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for you to play an integral role in supporting and championing the successful promotion of our night-time walking marathon SHINE.

The SHINE team is looking for dedicated interns to support the regional marketing and promotion of our Shine events in two major UK cities. This will also include seeking out and engaging with new business and community audiences to secure support and help ensure recruitment and income targets are met.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and gain skills and experience across multiple aspects of Events Marketing, PR and Sponsorship disciplines.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the research, contact and management of key relationships and partnership opportunities
  • Researching and acting on Gift in Kind Opportunities
  • Leading on Brand Advocacy within Shine cities
  • Research and help identify new marketing, public relations, and sponsorship ideas and opportunities
  • Building and establishing relationships to engage with local business and community groups
  • Supporting regional marketing and public relations launch activity 
  • Distributing marketing materials
  • Coordinating and delivering promotional marketing and public relations activity
  • Managing and co-ordinating volunteers

Additional considerations…

  • Physical activity may be required
  • Willing to work unsociable hours 
  • Working under all weather conditions (cold, rain, sunshine, wind)
  • You may be required to travel and possibly stay away from home as required 
  • You must hold a full and clean driving licence and have access to a car
  • Must have access to laptop and internet

How much time do I need to commit?

We would like someone who can work full-time from March through June 2012 (16 week internship is offered), but we realise that this might not be possible and would try and find a flexible solution for the right candidate. In this case, we would need you to commit to a minimum of three specific days each week, however this again can be flexible

What support will I be given?

  • You will be provided with a Cancer Research UK Induction
  • You will be provided with training specific to the role. 
  • You will be assigned with a mentor to provide ongoing guidance and support.
  • You will be supported by Shine Management Team for all day to day activity.
  • 1:1 monthly review to develop and work to a personal development plan.
  • Interim and end of placement reviews

Location

This Internship is a regional based role where you will be working as part of the SHINE team from your own home. We are looking for interns to be based in the Manchester and London areas.

Hours of Work

Due to the nature of this role your hours of work may vary depending on the level of activity taking place, and on occasions this may involve working unsociable hours e.g. weekends.

The majority of work will take place Monday – Friday between the hours of 9am – 5pm.
