Why we need you:

Cheer on our runners as they race for a personal best in the marathon voted fastest in the UK by Runner's World magazine. Volunteer to join the Cancer Research UK team and cheer on our runners as they take on this dizzying challenge on 27th May!

Our cheering point volunteers create an amazing buzz around the course and offer incredible support to the participants through encouraging them to keep running and reminding them how worthwhile all their effort is.

What will I be doing?

  • You will be positioned at a cheering point along the route that the competitors will take.
  • It is your job to cheer, encourage and support the runners to keep going to the finish line!
  • Please bring friends and family along to support and enjoy the event with you. Every single person will make a difference to the loud cheering that keeps competitors going!

What skills and attributes do I need to have?

  • All you need is lots of enthusiasm and be willing to make lots of noise to support our runners!
  • The atmosphere you and others can create does provide that extra support that the runners need.

How much time do I need to commit?

  • Ideally between 1-3 hours for a half day and 3-5 hours for a full day event however this will vary for each event. Any amount of time you can give will be greatly appreciated.

What support will I be given?

  • There will be a team leader at each cheering point who will provide you with a Cancer Research UK volunteer t-shirt making you part of our team and so you can easily recognise other Cancer Research UK volunteers.
  • We will give you cheering sticks, loud halers and whistles so you’re cheering will definitely not be missed!
  • Refreshments will be provided for half day volunteering and sandwiches for a full day volunteering event.
  • Cancer research UK staff will be available throughout the event to support you and answer any questions that you may have.

What benefits can I expect?

  • You will get to experience a fantastic event and have a fun day out with family or friends.
  • By supporting the competitors you will be contributing to the money raised to support cancer research and to helping thousands of people across the UK beat cancer.
  • You will meet other like minded volunteers who along with yourself will provide a great atmosphere on the day.
