The Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies
The Ribble Valley and White Rose Ladies were formed 12 years ago by five ‘no-nonsense’ girls who get things done!
They have raised an incredible £800,000 so far for Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
More specifically, the group have been funding Professor Jillian Birch’s research into the possible causes of childhood cancers – a cause very close to their hearts.
Fundraising to help beat cancer
They originally started fundraising as a luncheon club but have organised a number of different events over the years including clay pigeon shoots and charity balls.
Recently the committee held their second Relay For Life – an inspirational overnight event that honours cancer survivors and celebrates life. They managed to raise a staggering £110,000 through this one event.
Flame of Hope award
The Ribble Valley and White Rose ladies have received various awards from Cancer Research UK for their dedication and commitment over the years and have recently won a joint ‘Flame of Hope’ award for fundraising in the community.
Karen Weaving, founder member and secretary says: “We have the most fun fundraising for Cancer Research UK and organising a Relay for Life certainly tops it off.
Although it is hard work and challenging sometimes, the fact that we keep on doing it is testament to how much fun it is!”
