Getting work experience in event organisation

Georgina Bracewell, a second year student at Oxford Brookes University, volunteered in our London office during her summer holidays in 2008.

She worked alongside the London Volunteer Managers to deliver the press launch for last year's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

Georgina says: "I was interested in gaining work experience in event organisation.

"I spoke with my local volunteer manager, who explained the opportunities available in my area and the press launch instantly took my interest."

Delivering a successful campaign launch

Georgina sourced the only pink Routemaster bus in the UK, champagne and wine, luxury chocolates, goodie bags and celebrity make-up artists to pamper ten breast cancer survivors who visited the bus for a photo shoot.

Olympic gold boxing medallist James De Gale came to support the ladies on the day and give "a knockout blow to breast cancer".

The successful campaign launch would not have been realised without Georgina's drive to secure the very best for the event.

"I worked with such an incredibly friendly team and had a lot of fun. I met some inspiring cancer survivors, which made my experience all the more rewarding. I would definitely consider volunteering again," she says.

"Find out about the opportunities available and give volunteering a go!"
