"The more responsibility you are willing to take on, the more you will get out of this internship."

Seth did his internship at the Volunteering Department in Summer 2008. Here is what he says about his internship:

Why Cancer Research UK?

"I wanted to gain valuable experience in the charity sector with the view to a permanent job and wanted to manage an actual project. I also thought it would be a good opportunity to expand my social and career networks."

Main responsibilities

Seth Harrison Mayor

"I co-managed a project redeveloping the Volunteer Network website, which is an online platform for volunteers to interact with each other. I was also in charge of developing online volunteering, a new initiative for Cancer Research UK. This involved laying out marketing plans, pitching the idea to departments and managing the pilot stage of the project."

Highlights of my internship

"I gained experience in project management, marketing and got training in databases and editing content for web. This internship has confirmed to me that this is the sector I would like to work in."

Tips for future interns

"I believe the more responsibility you are willing to take on, the more you will get out of the internship. Speak to as many people as possible and you will learn a lot more about your role and confirm your aspirations for the future."
