"The internship has done so much for me and I'm really looking forward to testing my new skills in the job market."

Charlotte did her internship in the Volunteering department in 2007. This is what she has to say about her experiences and the projects she worked on.

"I really wanted to do something different with my summer and an internship was ideal as it offered me a chance to work on key skills and see whether Cancer Research UK and the charity sector could be options in the future.

"I worked on three projects – I researched creating an intern alumni group, investigated what volunteering opportunities Cancer Research UK can offer to corporate clients and assessed how to engage more Cancer Research UK departments in developing new volunteering opportunities."

Achievements

"One of my main achievements was to develop my analytical skills when I researched and assessed how different departments use volunteers within Cancer Research UK. I also enjoyed being able to see some of my ideas implemented and really feeling like one of the team.

"Aside from learning about Cancer Research UK, I also learnt a lot about myself and about my capabilities in the workplace.

"I learnt a great deal about how to organise and motivate myself which is invaluable when I return to university.

"I also discovered a fresh perspective on careers and the future which will hopefully help me go on to be successful in my chosen career."
