Event volunteering

Your time and skills are valuable to us

You may have heard of Race for Life, but do you know just how many other events we organise? And how dependent we are on the support of volunteers?

It’s volunteers who ensure these events run smoothly, successfully and safely.

You could help 1350 people descend from the roof of Twickenham stadium, steward a thousand 10K runners around a beautiful stately home, or help motivate them with a warm-up at the start line.

Or if night time is better for you, volunteer for Relay For Life, our 24-hour vigil and celebration.

Two ways to volunteer

For either of the following roles, you should also be able to work in a team, lift equipment (within reason!) and communicate warmly with the public.

Role 1. Day volunteer

Day volunteers are paramount for a successful event. Your tasks might involve:

  • setting up equipment
  • registering participants and answering queries
  • acting as a marshal and clearing litter
  • handing out medals and goody bags.

Role 2. Key event volunteer

As a key event volunteer, you’ll help us plan and prepare events, as well as taking on extra responsibility on the day itself. You might be:

  • organising local promotion
  • helping design an event course
  • coordinating a team of fellow volunteers on the day.

We’ll provide all the support and direction you need, so you’ll feel comfortable taking on these tasks.

It’s all great experience for your CV! If you think you have the passion and "people skills" for either of these roles, please search for the latest event volunteering opportunities in your area using the drop down menu on our volunteering page.

Particular events and seasons

You may be interested in volunteering at a particular event. Our range of activities varies seasonally through the year, and you can search by postcode or event type. So take a look at our events programme – but if you can’t find what you want, make sure you revisit later in the year, to find out what’s new!

Or do your own thing!

If you would prefer to go solo and set up your own fundraising events, please visit our section about becoming a fundraising volunteer.
