The Downs Link Bike Ride

The Downs Link Bike Ride Committee really ‘pedaled’ out their event this year with a staggering 762 riders raising over £55,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The bike ride is unusual in that it isn’t a circular route – starting in Guildford and finishing on the south coast at Shoreham. This brings a whole range of challenges in addition to the actual ride itself, but the committee does a great job in getting everybody back to their cars at the end!

The safe off-road route means that riders of all ages can take part, which adds to the fun family nature of the day. The committee is working hard to develop this further with entertainment and an MC at the end together with refreshment outlets.

The ride started in 2003 as a staff-led event with 150 riders, and then became supporter led two years ago. Since then it has gone from strength to strength. Riders get a medal and a t-shirt at the end of the ride, which are fast becoming collectors’ items. The committee is already planning this September’s ride!
