Alp adventure in tribute to a brave a friend

A group of friends have driven across some of the roughest terrain in the French Alps to raise cash for Cancer Research UK in tribute to their brave friend.

Kevin Cochrane, from Frodsham, Cheshire, had originally planned to take part in the 190 mile off-road expedition, but was too ill to travel.

Unfortunately, just a week after his friends returned from the trip, father-of-two, Kevin lost his long fight against cancer.

"White Cruise" across the Alps

Kevin's best friend, Mike Metcalf, organised the off-road trip known as "La Croisiere Blanche" (White Cruise).

The expedition involved a convoy of vehicles travelling off-road across the Alps completing as much of the journey as possible on carbon neutral diesel.

The gang had originally aimed to collect £3,000 for Cancer Research UK, but raised over £9,500.

Father-of-two Mike said: "We are all so sorry to have lost an amazing friend.

"We thought of Kevin every day when we were away and he always texted us at 4.00am to make sure we were up for the day's adventure ahead.

"We had a fantastic time in France with some hair-raising moments and are pleased to have raised so much money for Cancer Research UK in tribute to a brave man."
