Ed Stafford and Luke Collyer aim to walk 3,977 miles unsupported from the source of the Amazon River in southern Peru to the mouth of the Amazon River in Brazil.
The walk will be done in one outing, without any outside assistance, and without acquiring any food or drink from any person for the entire duration. Ed and Luke will use sustainable survival practices to live off the jungle for the entire expedition and will have with them only what they can carry in their rucksacks.
It is believed that if the pair completes the journey, they will be the first men ever to walk the entire length of the river.
Ed is fundraising for Cancer Research UK and would like to dedicate the journey to his father. Ed’s father Jeremy died of cancer in 1999 at the age of 55.
Please support the pair on their journey at www.justgiving.com/walkingtheamazoncancer and help raise money for cancer research.
The start date for the expedition is April 2008. There will be a month of acclimatisation and training in southern Peru during March 2008. The journey is expected to take one year to complete.
