Award-winning garden designer, Andy Sturgeon

This year's Cancer Research UK garden is designed by the award-winning garden designer, journalist, author and broadcaster Andy Sturgeon.

Garden designer

Andy is one of the UK’s leading garden designers. His modern designs are a fusion of traditional materials and contemporary styling.

Andy worked at The Royal Horticultural Society Gardens Wisley and as a landscape gardener before graduating from the Welsh College of Horticulture in 1987. As a freelance garden designer his projects are often featured on television and in magazines and national newspapers. 

Based in Brighton, his design practice takes commissions ranging from hi-tech roof gardens to large country estates all over the UK and in Europe.

In 2008 Andy will also be exhibiting at the Singapore Garden Festival and Quebec City's 400th Anniversary Celebrations.

Achievements

Andy has won RHS Gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and at Hampton Court in 1998.

He is a registered member of the Society of Garden Designers and is listed as one of House and Garden Magazine's top 50 designers in Britain.

Journalist and author

Andy contributes regularly to numerous magazines including BBC Gardeners World, Gardens Illustrated and Garden Life.

He is also The Guardian’s gardening correspondent and has been a columnist with the Daily Mail, Daily Express and Sunday Times.

Andy has published two books, "Planted" and "Potted", with a third on its way.

Broadcaster

Andy has presented gardening programmes for all the major terrestrial channels including Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC. His work is also featured in BBC2’s prime time series Small Town Gardens.
